What to Bring - Dormitory Life

Students may wish to purchase some of the following items after they arrive at Linden Hall. Remember, these are dorm rooms and students will be sharing space with one or more girls. When traveling to school, remember that “less is more!” Due to the fact that we live in South Central Pennsylvania we do experience four seasons where extreme temperatures and weather conditions are common.

Must Have Items...

  • Sheets (Twin Extra Long)  
  • Pillow and pillowcases  
  • Bedspread/comforter  
  • Blanket  
  • Towels and washcloths  
  • Bathrobe 
  • Desk lamp  
  • Alarm clock  
  • Laundry supplies (hamper or laundry basket, laundry detergent, fabric softener) NO BLEACH! 
  • Toiletries and shower caddy 
  • Clothes hangers 
  • Hair care necessities (curling irons, blow dryers, etc.)  
  • Combination lock for closet (required) 
  • Laptop computer (Please refer to our BYOD policy).
  • Rain and cold weather clothing (coats, sweaters, gloves, hats and scarves) 
  • Dresses or skirts for special occasions  
    • Please note: We have special dinners at various times throughout the year, and we do have some weekend dances planned. These events are considered uniform or better. Please see your Student Handbook for information about appropriate attire. All students must wear white dresses and white shoes for graduation activities.
  • Athletic Clothing and Sneakers (t-shirts, shorts, leggings, sports-bra, and protective gear as needed)  

Optional Items...

  • Miniature Refrigerator (no larger than 1.8 cubic feet) ONLY ONE PER STUDENT 
    • Please note: Students leaving LH are required to dispose of their refrigerators. Students must keep refrigerators clean or they will be confiscated.
      iPods, MP3 players
  • Your favorite non-perishable snacks from home  
  • iPads, Apple watches, tablets, and other electronic devices 
  • Throw rugs/carpet (no larger than 3x5)   
  • Book light  
  • Posters, pictures, etc., and non-damaging supplies to hang them like Command Strips and Sticky Tack 
  • Sleeping bag  
  • Skis, tennis racquet, softball glove, etc.  
  • Flashlight  
  • Electric tea kettle with auto shut off capability (No hot pots allowed) 

The School strongly recommends that all belongings be labeled with the student’s name. Additionally, students should not keep large amounts of money in their rooms. Instead, student should keep their extra cash in the School’s Business Office to be kept secure in the School’s safe.  

 

Items to Leave at Home

  • Television  
  • Furniture (desk chairs, large bean bags like Lovesac couches, tables, and shelves, etc.) 
  • Heat lamps or sun lamps  
  • Portable space heaters and electric blankets  
  • Valuables (jewelry, etc.)  
  • Posters, containers, or decorations advocating drugs, alcohol, or pornography  
  • Incense, candles, matches, lighters  
  • Electric cooking or household appliances (including but not limited to rice cookers, hot pots, crockpots, griddles, sandwich presses, coffee makers, blenders, toasters, microwaves, Easy-Bake Ovens, cosmetic wax pots, etc.) 
  • Knives or razor blades 
  • Tools (hammers, screwdrivers, etc.) 
  • Pepper spray or weapons 
  • Slime and slime ingredients 

Safety and security is very important to everyone at Linden Hall. We require students to keep their doors and closets locked. In addition, we suggest that all valuables (jewelry, large sums of cash, etc) be left at home. We recommend that students open a bank account and deposit their money in the bank or with the school's Business Office.
