History of Lititz

AMERICA'S COOLEST SMALL TOWN and lancaster county's sweet spot

In 1742, Count Nicholaus Ludwig Von Zinzendorf arrived from Saxony, Germany and founded the settlement that is known today as Lititz in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Named after a Bohemian Castle near the village of Kunvald in Germany, Lititz has become a favorite destination for travelers from both near and far.

In 2013, Lititz won the enviable title of "America's Coolest Small Town." Within walking distance of campus, there are over 50 local independent shops and eateries, as well as banks, salons, and pharmacies. Lititz is known for its eclectic selection of boutiques and shops offering clothing, accessories, antiques, home decor, arts, crafts, and more.

Lititz is also the original home to the Wilbur Chocolate Company, manufacturers of the world famous Wilbur Bud, and the Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery. Founded in 1861, the bakery is the first commercial pretzel bakery in America. The Wilbur Chocolate Factory closed in 2015, but the Wilbur Chocolate Company Candy Museum and Store remain a popular tourist location.
