"All the world's a stage..."
While most schools offer dramatic productions in the fall and spring, Linden Hall
prides itself on a stellar offering of courses in dramatic arts throughout
the year.
Upper school students may elect drama courses that will teach them various aspects
of dramatic discipline. Students learn basic acting skills and are introduced to
many styles of theater literature. From the auditioning process to improvisational
games, students will develop poise and confidence when "on" stage.
Middle school students may audition for the winter trimester drama class. This ten
week course focuses on mounting a full-scale production. During the 2008-09 term,
middle school classes will tackle Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream."
High school drama students have the opportunity to hone the actor's craft in plays,
musicals, and competition pieces. Former productions have included Peter Pan, Our
Town, Anne of Green Gables, and an original adaptation of Little Women. Our award-winning
competition team has performed cuttings from Medea, Lysistrata, and The Complete
Works of Wm Shkspr (abridged).
A
Drama Through the Ages course is offered that traces the origins of Western theater,
beginning with ancient Greece and concluding with America's only major contribution
to theater, the Broadway musical.
Located in historic Lititz, Linden Hall is fortunate to have several award-winning
regional theaters nearby. Because of our close proximity to Philadelphia and New
York City, as well as centers for national tours of most Broadway shows within minutes
of our campus, interested theater students have the opportunity to see quality theater
on a regular basis. This term's field trips include theater trips to see Wicked,
Avenue Q, and Les Miserable |
