College Counseling at Linden Hall

Linden Hall’s College Counseling Office provides a comprehensive and supportive
program for students and parents as they progress through the steps of the college
selection and application process. The extensive guidance that is offered helps
students identify colleges and universities that will provide the best match for
their academic potential, aspirations, talents, and interests.
Throughout their educational career at Linden Hall, students are prepared for college
by the mentoring of teachers, advisors, and administrators in our program’s signature
4C’s areas of curriculum, character, culture, and conditioning. The academic challenges,
leadership opportunities, community service projects, artistic programs, and physical
activities in which students engage contribute to their self knowledge, the starting
point for a successful college search, and to the building of authentic college
resumes. In addition, an assessment program unique to Linden Hall, including College
Board and ACT tests, provides students with experience in both reasoning and curriculum
based tests during grades 7-12. In addition, the College Counseling office with
data from these tests can direct students to the most appropriate college entrance examination for their abilities and test taking style, while the faculty can work to remediate academic shortcomings specific to each individual student. Interest
inventories are included within the assessment program, and students are given guidance
and resources for career exploration. The College Board SAT On-line Course is also
available to students, and is a required component of the junior year curriculum.
College informational classes signify the start of the formal college process. They
are conducted by the College Counselor at the beginning of the junior year. Students
receive a handbook containing detailed information on all facets of the college
search and application process, and discussions occur in all areas. Parents also
receive a copy of the handbook, and advisement occurs during meetings on Parents’
Weekends and in conferences in the junior and senior years. Students meet individually with the College Counselor throughout the junior year as college lists are created,
researched, and refined, and as testing plans are established. Students also have
the opportunity to meet with college representatives who visit Linden Hall, engage
in campus visitation days, attend a local college fair, complete a Common Application,
request teacher recommendations, and write college essays with mentoring from English
teachers. In the senior year, the College Counselor oversees the completion and
review of all applications, the compilation and distribution of supporting materials,
and the management of final details for successful college application.
Linden Hall’s intensive and supportive college counseling approach results in 100%
acceptance to some of the finest schools in the nation. |
