What type of school is Linden Hall?
Linden Hall is the nation's oldest independent boarding and day school for girls in grade 5-12. It is home to the nation's top-ranked academic program for college preparatory students, with median SAT and AP Exam Scores that surpass local and national averages.

The school is small by design, with an all-girl focus, a family-oriented atmosphere, and an average class size of 12. Student enrollment is comprised of 250 students representing 13 countries and 12 states.

Why an independent school?
Independence is the unique characteristic of a small segment of the education industry, offering schools specific freedoms that contribute to academic success – the freedom to define their own unique missions; freedom to admit students well-matched to the school's mission; freedom to define the qualifications for high-quality teachers and retain only those instructors who consistently demonstrate said abilities; the freedom to determine what and how to teach; and the freedom to select how to assess student achievement. Such independence has allowed Linden Hall to create the unique identity it has today, and has assisted in establishing our unparalleled record of academic excellence.

Why a small school?
The answer is simple – students attending small-size schools are known by their faculty and staff. Students learn better in smaller classes. Small schools also tend to provide safer environments than large schools.

Why an all-girl education?
The research is clear – girls learn better, achieve more, and are exposed to more leadership opportunities in an all-girls' school. Compared to girls at coed schools, girls at an all-girls' school have higher self-esteem and their self-worth is founded upon many factors other than their physical appearance. The use of drugs and alcohol is lower among girls attending an all-girls' school, and the rate of teenage pregnancy is lower than girls of similar demographics who attend coed schools.
A recent study published by UCLA discusses the benefits realized by a single-sex education.

Why a boarding school?
Most college students live on campus. With college on the horizon, preparing a student for independent living is almost as important as preparing her for independent thinking. Linden Hall offers a 7-day boarding option as well as a 5-day option, which allows students to spend weekends at home.

Boarding also advances the maturation process, provides opportunities for life-long friendships and networking, and enhances the global experience of learning and living with students from around the world.

Does Linden Hall admit only boarding students?
No. Linden Hall accepts applications from families who would commute to school daily. The same admission standards apply to these day student applicants. Currently, 20% of the Linden Hall student body is comprised of day students.

What types of students attend Linden Hall?
Linden Hall accepts students with academic potential that ranges from slightly above average to exceptional who have a wide range of interests and backgrounds. Students are of good character, without a history of behavioral issues, are motivated to learn, and seek a community that fosters a spirit of sisterhood.

What are the benefits of attending a globally-focused school?
College life and the world's leading companies have highly international environments. There is no better means to train a young adult for this reality than an educational community with a diverse and international student body. Few schools offer as rich a global experience as Linden Hall where girls meet girls from around the world. With students from 15 nations and 14 states, Linden Hall offers a dynamic environment where learning takes place both in and out of classroom.

Do all Linden Hall graduates go to college?
100% of Linden Hall graduates place into 4-year colleges. The College Counseling Program is an extensive, individualized process that results in our graduates attending colleges that are best fits for them. This year's senior class has applied to all eight Ivy League universities, many other prestigious tier-one universities, colleges specializing in art and engineering, small liberal arts colleges, and large public universities. There is no 'one size fits all' approach to Linden Hall's college counseling.

What is student life like?
Whether you're a boarding school or day school student, you will experience an energetic, supportive environment – in the classroom, on the athletic field, or on the stage. Girls immerse themselves in the culture of their fellow students and experience independent living in a family-like atmosphere.

Linden Hall's campus is always alive with the co-curricular activities of clubs and other campus organizations. Dances and weekend activities are planned to be safe, educational, healthy and fun. All activities are open to day school students.

How do families afford Linden Hall?
The financial obligation at Linden Hall is unique for each family. Some families pay full tuition while some receive tuition assistance or merit scholarships. Some families receive both. All families are expected to pay something as we view the Linden Hall experience as a partnership between a family and the school.
