The Ledger

International Night is a celebration of the customs and cultures of our international students. It's a more recent tradition at Linden Hall. The first International Night was held approximately six years ago. Mr. McGrath had said that this has been very positive for us as long as we keep as the purpose to get international students better acquainted with the school and to involve the community in Lititz. He feels it provides students with more understanding of each person rather than labeling someone as the Mexican, or the Korean.

On Thursday, January 22, the juniors hosted the annual Junior Auction. This year's junior class, along with the help of advisors Mrs. Luttrell and Mrs. Gillingham, planned both a regular and silent auction. How on earth can you have a silent auction? Essentially, items are placed on a table and you can walk around and bid on them. All you need to do is write your full name and an amount higher than the preceding bidder's to have a chance at getting those coveted Korean noodles. The silent auction was held all day long, and students were sneaking over between classes all day to place their bids.

Students and faculty were also invited to the regular auction. Mr.

Yerger volunteered to be the auctioneer. Yes, there was a REAL auctioneer, a.k.a. a guy who can talk really, really fast, just for your entertainment. There was furious bidding on all items, which were kindly donated by students, faculty, and local businesses. The highest selling items were the much debated parking place, which sold to Mrs. Mummert for one hundred and five dollars and the year-long breakfast cut, which sold for a whopping one hundred and thirty dollars to Sandie Bershad.  All money raised at the auction goes to the junior class. It will be used to pay for the prom, class gift, and other expenses. Therefore, it is likely that the entire student body

will reap the benefits of donating to or bidding at the auction.

President of the Junior Class, Perry Harschutz says, “Thank you to all the juniors who helped with the junior auction.  I am so blessed to have such a wonderful class.  I would also like to thank the stores that donated such generous gifts, the students and faculty who supported our class and Mrs. Luttrell and Mrs. Gillingham.  It was a success Y’all!”  And as Perry says, it was indeed a huge success, exceeding the junior class’ expectations and raising hundreds of dollars for the Junior class, and ultimately the school.

Junior Class Auction is Huge Success!

some of their countries’ dishes with the school by cooking and preparing them with the aid of Chef Bob. The fashion show and talent show follow the special dinner. The fashion show presents students with the chance to model outfits from their country. In the talent show, any Linden Hall student may sing a song in their language or perform a dance or skit.

This year, International Night will be held on March 28 and 29. It is an experience to look forward to and I hope to see you there!
